6 Reasons Why You Have Split Ends

Unfortunately, split ends are a fact of life that everyone has to deal with at some point or the other. Not only do these give the ends of your hair a frayed look, they also make any hair-do look awful. There are several reasons for getting split ends and it might seem like there’s no easy remedy to fix them. For those of you who are trying to grow out your hair, split ends can be your worst enemy. - Excessive brushing
Unnecessary combing of the hair is one of the causes of split ends. Excessive back combing of hair disrupts the epidermis and leads to split ends and hair fall. The most important cause is brushing the hair while it is still wet, because wet hair can stretch up to twenty-five percent, leading to breakage.
- Hair colouring
Colouring of the hair makes the condition of the hair worse. Avoid colouring your hair if possible. But if you use colour to hide your greys, make sure that you use ammonia-free hair products.
- Heated appliances
Heated appliances strip the essential oils and moisture from your hair, leaving them extremely dry and brittle. Use these devices as less as possible to avoid your hair from getting fried with split ends. And if you must use, protect your hair with a good hair serum to avoid damage while you style your hair.
- Rubbing with a towel
Rubbing your hair with a towel is the worst thing to do when it comes to avoiding split ends. It’s better to let your hair air dry on its own and more importantly, avoid drying your hair with a hair dryer. This is an important hair care tip!
- Rubber bands
Rubber bands may look fancy and make your hair look accessorised but this can cause the hair to get damaged too! So, avoid the use of certain uncovered rubber bands because when they are removed, they often rub against the hair repeatedly and cause them to split.
- Poor health results in poor hair
Last but not the least, it’s extremely important to understand that what you eat affects your hair. A low-fat diet can make the hair dull and ugly. If you don’t include healthy fats like olive oil or fish oil to your diet, your hair will reflect it. These healthy fats are good for your entire body and can save your hair from getting damaged.
