What Your Body Is Telling You through Yellowing Nails
Yellowing of fingernails might seem like a trivial beauty issue which can be hidden behind a nail colour of your choice. However, it is a sign of warning from your body. There are many reasons why you could experience yellowing of nails. Let’s explore them in detail and look at some remedies as well.
  • Medical diseases
Fingernails that are yellow can be an indication of a serious medical disorder in some cases such as liver disease, lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and nutritional deficiencies, most notably iron and zinc. Visit your doctor for a proper check-up.
  • Nail fungus
One of the initial symptoms of nail fungus is yellowing of nails. You may see other symptoms such as flaking of the nail and an unpleasant odour when the fungus breaks down the components of the nail. You are advised to visit a doctor in this case and follow a clean skin care regime.
  • Smoking
If you are a smoker then the cause of your yellow nails could be cigarettes. Though it is not one of the most serious effects of smoking, but for the sake of your general health and beauty as well, you should quit smoking. This is a vital skin care tip.
  • Excessive use of nail paint
Coating your nails with nail paint can deprive them of oxygen and make them pale yellow. Give them a breather after every two weeks and let them stay natural. Otherwise, you can also soak them in a mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide and water for 2 minutes, rinse and moisturise used Dabur Gulabari Moisturising Lotion so they don’t get too dry.
  • Use lemon as a natural remedy
Lemon is a natural bleaching agent that not only acts as an astringent but it also effectively wipes yellow stains from your nails. Try this natural homemade skin care remedy - fill a bowl halfway with fresh lemon juice, soak your nails for 10 minutes, then use a soft bristled brush to gently scrub the discoloration off your nails. Rinse with Dabur Gulabari Rose Water and then finally moisturise well. Repeat this regime every day for a week and you’ll see the discolouration vanish completely! Alternatively, you can use lemon essential oil or tea tree oil to whiten and brighten your nails.
  • And while you’re at it, learn how to give yourself a manicure at home.
